The development of sports infrastructure is discussed in Mariupol

Meetings on the development of education, infrastructure, culture and preservation of historical heritage are continued in Mariupol. One of them was devoted to a discussion with the city's athletes, heads of sports schools and complexes. Deputy Mayor Olexander Kochurin spoke about the prospects for the development of infrastructure, new areas of sports and the creation of appropriate conditions for young people. We also discussed issues regarding the possible reconstruction of ‘Azovets’ sports complex.

Olexander Kochurin noted that Metinvest Group is ready to finance the renovation of the infrastructure and premises of ‘Azovets’ sports complex. The project involves the renovation of the stadium, sports sections and the construction of a five-story dormitory for 200 places for future students of Metinvest Polytechnic. The sports complex will remain the property of the community and the university will be in charge of servicing student housing.

‘In order for this project to become a reality, it is necessary to hold an investment competition, where the city will present a number of requirements for its implementation. The company that wins must take into account our requirements and wishes that you will voice at these meetings,’ the deputy mayor added.

He added that now the project for the renovation of the interior is under discussion, so the municipality is ready to listen to all proposals. The reconstruction concept implies the creation of a circular running track, two mini football fields, volleyball and basketball courts.

Answering questions regarding the choice of a place for a hostel, Olexander Kochurin replied that the premises of the sports complex are outdated and require replacement of engineering networks. In addition, the city needs additional financial resources to repair the professional sports infrastructure. These are tens of millions of hryvnias.

‘Mariupol has ambitious plans for the repair of sports schools and complexes. Reconstruction of the Neptune floating pool requires colossal investments. Funds are needed to repair the Sports School No. 2. Within four years, we plan to create modern sports zones with mini-fields, multifunctional fields and exercise equipment at each school. Roof repair and track and field arena are required. Therefore, the reconstruction of ‘Azovet’ Sports Complex is an additional investment,’ Olexander Kochurin emphasized.

In addition, everybody was present were interested in questions regarding the return of sports sections to the territory of ‘Azovets’. The deputy mayor stressed that after the implementation of the project, the sports sections will return to the sports complex.
