Today, Mariupol residents have been told about the project for the comprehensive reconstruction of Freedom Square (along  Mira Ave., from Stroiteley Ave. to Levanevskiy Str.). The meeting was held in the building of the updated Chess Club, where the IT cluster is now located. As part of the renovation, landscaping and integrated landscaping are planned. The work is scheduled to be completed by mid-2020.

The project envisages the arrangement of complex multifunctional public buildings, gardening of the territory with lawn decoration and automatic irrigation. Alleys and grounds will be paved with decorative paving tiles. Pedestrian sidewalks, paths, bicycle paths will be updated. The number of playgrounds will increase, they will be divided by age groups. This was told by the head of the department for improvement of the development of the housing and communal infrastructure of the city council Vadim Isakov.

The highlight of the square can be a pedestrian fountain. At night, it will be highlighted by 120 underwater lights. It will install a modern system of filtration and disinfection of water. Another remarkable place is ‘The Bell of the World’ symbolic composition. The statements of famous public figures will be written there with metal letter. Besides, there  will be a multifunctional scene with a built-in video screen.

‘This square was opened in the 70s, since it has not changed much. Now the main venue for public events is Theater Square, but its scale does not allow to fully accommodate the number of people who come to various concerts and fairs. Therefore, Svoboda Square will become a multifunctional leisure venue,’ Deputy Mayor Sergey Zakharov said.

It is planned that the one-storey building will house a cleaning equipment room, a rental point, a snack bar and a lobby for leisure activities. For convenience, Mariupol residents will open a public place for convenience with a booth for people with disabilities.

In their turn, Mariupol residents asked to increase the area of playgrounds. In addition, there was a proposal to organize a permanent place for food court.
