People's deputies headed by the Chairman of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Human Rights, De-occupation and Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Dmytro Lubintsov arrived in the city today. They met with representatives of public associations of national minorities in the city. The event was attended by the Secretary of Mariupol City Council Ksenia Sukhova.
‘Mariupol is a multinational city with 16 organizations that work with national minorities. We preserve the historical heritage, develop the culture of all ethnic groups. Interaction for the development of our hometown is key for us and in this we are a successful example,’ Ksenia Sukhova noted in her welcoming speech.
Dmitry Lubinets stressed that this is a monitoring visit, which aims to study the state of ensuring the rights and needs of national minorities in places of their compact residence. In addition, take into account their proposals for the draft law on national minorities.
‘Now the working group is developing a new version of the Law ‘On National Minorities in Ukraine ‘. During these meetings, we want to hear your problems, suggestions on this document,’ he said.
The head of Donetsk Regional State Administration Pavlo Kyrylenko said that more than 130 ethnic groups live in the region, there are 81 public organizations of national minorities. According to him, there are no manifestations of discrimination based on ethnic or racial characteristics in the region.
In turn, representatives of Greek, Armenian, Azerbaijani, German public organizations noted that the main problem is the lack of necessary funding for the implementation of projects and confirmation of guarantees of equality in all spheres of activity.
