The Forum of Women's Leadership “Be a woman. Be a leader. Be yourself” has been held online in Mariupol and Kyiv. The need of breakdown of gender stereotypes and issues to form the community of female leadership were discussed. The deputy mayor Arkadiy Meshkov told about the experience of Mariupol.
“Mariupol is a city of equal opportunities. We set the task of adhering to the principles of equality, tolerance and respect for everyone in the implementation of all projects of development. We study the best European practices and implement them in our city. Thus, we pay considerable attention to combating domestic violence. Mariupol was the first in the region to implement a project to open a day shelter where victims of violence can apply, where they receive legal and psychological assistance,” the deputy mayor said.
In addition, Arkadiy Meshkov noted that equal opportunities in the field of entrepreneurship are being implemented in the city. Gender equality is being implemented within the framework of the projects of the Center for the Development of Small and Medium Business and the Center for the Development of Startups "1991 Mariupol". This is actively supported by the municipality.
“It should be emphasized that 80% of the employees of the municipality are women. A significant percentage of them hold leadership positions. It is an important component of the European vector of the city's development for us,” the deputy mayor concluded his speech.
Besides, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Kateryna Pavlichenko and the rector of the Donetsk Law Institute Serhiy Vitvitsky were present at the Forum. The event was organized by the Donetsk Law Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine with the support of the UN Program for Peace Recovery and Development.
