The sea cross border security is renovated in Mariupol

The deputy mayor Arkadiy Meshkov has met with the representatives of the USA government. During working discussions, the plan of construction and improvement of the places of location and line of duty of special units of Marine guard were represented.

“This is an important step to strengthen maritime security not only in Mariupol but in the whole world. It will improve logistic possibilities of Marine guard significantly and will help Ukraine to defend the rights on its territory. It will also give the opportunity to provide maritime activities and support the economics of the country”, the advisor of maritime issues of the program of export control and safety of the borders EXBS of the Embassy of the USA in Ukraine Kevin Keller admitted.

The goal of the project is to support the development of infrastructure and potential of Maritime security of State border service of Ukriane by the government of the USA. It is realized within the frameworks of Export Control and Related Border Security Program (EXBS), under the support of US Department of State Bureau of International Security and Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction and US Department of State.

 “The 23rd Mariupol Marine Guard Detachment protects the security of our city. Comfortable conditions must be created for effective service. In this direction, we have a reliable partnership with the US Government”, Arkady Meshkov said.

The US Embassy, the EXBS program and the Maritime Guard of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine have been cooperating since 2015. In recent years, there has been active construction or restoration of various locations of the Marine Guard base in Mariupol, Berdyansk and Odesa.

 “Our work is determined by the needs of the democratic society and international duties. Today the following step of the project of the international technical help is realized in Mariupol. The base of the ship-boat composition and the location of the rapid response units will be equipped. This will significantly increase the operational capacity of the Marine Guard, its mobility and efficiency, " the head of the regional department of the Marine Guard of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Oleg Kostur said.

The trainings on the issues of law protection activity at the sea for the personnel are also included in the project.
