Сity council holds a meeting with the US inspection team

As part of the implementation of the Vienna Document of 2011, a multinational inspection team from the United States has visited Mariupol on a working visit. Thus, the military observers of the USA, the Kingdom of Great Britain, the Kingdom of Denmark and the Netherlands met with the deputy mayors Sergey Orlov and Sergey Zakharov, as well as the heads of the municipal units.

The purpose of the delegation’s visit is to hold talks to strengthen confidence and security, assess the socio-economic situation in the region and become familiar with the activities of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Accompanying the group, Colonel Vladislav Ponomarev, told the audience about the significance of their visit.

‘During the visit, we try to cover the whole range of power structures located in the city. They will help strengthen our position in the negotiation process regarding Ukraine,’ Vladislav Ponomarev, the accompanying group noted.

Representatives of the municipality spoke about the emerging logistical, economic and social problems in connection with the conflict in the region. Sergey Orlov noted positive trends in overcoming these difficulties.

‘We set the task not to look for obstacles, but to concentrate on development. As a result, Mariupol is among the ten safest cities in Ukraine, ‘Sergey Orlov said.

In turn, Sergey Zakharov spoke about the current situation in the city-forming enterprises. ‘We are actively moving towards the development of a strong and prosperous Mariupol. To do this, we are working in solving logistics and transportation problems’.

The parties also discussed strategies for the adaptation of IDPs created by Mariupol municipality.

At the end of the meeting, representatives of the delegation asked questions and exchanged souvenirs with representatives of the local authorities.
