In Mariupol, the reconstruction of Left Bank District Center for Social Rehabilitation of Children with Disabilities is being continued. There will be an early intervention service for babies at risk of disability. A new building will be opened for children from 14 to 18 years old. Also in the two-storey building, for the first time since construction, there will be an elevator. Today Mayor Vadym Boichenko and the People's Deputy of Ukraine Vadym Novynsky got acquainted with the course of performance of works.
The building has not been overhauled since 1970. During the reconstruction, three buildings will be redeveloped, and the area of the center will increase. This will allow to take twice as many children. A day service will be available. Not only children, but also their parents and teenagers under 18 will be able to attend classes. There will be rooms for rest and games, classes and relaxation. For seniors, a gym and an information technology class will be opened, where teenagers will learn IT literacy.
In the early intervention room, parents will be able to observe the work of specialists with children and learn from their experience through the translucent mirror of Gesell.
“The center will help not only children with disabilities, but also their parents. With the help of specialists, they will learn to properly raise their child. Such an experience will help them understand each other and adapt to society. It is important that early intervention before the age of two can restore the child's potential by 80%, ”
Vadym Boichenko emphasized.
The center will employ psychologists, rehabilitation specialists and speech therapists. With the help of special classes, children will be able to learn to speak, become more mobile, find new friends and adapt to society. One of the innovations is the canine therapy room. Communication with specially trained dogs will help in the development of communication skills. In addition, a counseling center for parents will be established on the basis of the center. A specially equipped bus will also be attached to the center for the convenience of children with disabilities.
“Every person is important in the work of the social sphere. Today in Mariupol everything is done so that children who need help receive rehabilitation in time and can be full members of society. Expansion of services and improvement of their quality brings the Centers to the modern high level,” Vadym Novynsky noted.
The project is financed by the European Investment Bank and the city budget. The total cost is more than UAH 45 million. Of these, more than UAH 33 million are non-refundable investments of the European Investment Bank.
