Mariupol has hosted the first run of ‘Mariupol Ten’ international format. More than 3 000 athletes and amateurs from different parts of the country took part in it. The organizers were the municipal enterprise ‘M. Sport - Sport for All’ and the running community ‘Toprunners’ with the support of the youth and sports department of Mariupol City Council.
On Sunday, the central avenue of the city turned into a road of sporting achievements and good mood. Participants gradually competed in three main distances - 1, 5 and 10 km. Along the entire route, hydration points were equipped.
From eight in the morning, the starting town turned around on Theater Square. Here nonresident participants received an additional opportunity to register and get start packages.
The children also took part in a specially organized route of 500 meters. The Paraolympic Run took place. Those interested could try their hand at Scandinavian walking at a distance of 5 km. At the finish all participants who overcame the distance received the finisher's medals. All routes were laid down the central streets of the city. The longest - captured the coast of the Azov Sea.
The movement on certain segments of the distance was completely blocked and on some of them it was coordinated by bike patrols and policemen. The race was held in accordance with the requirements of the International Association of Athletics Federations ‘European Athletics’.
According to the experience of the organizer of the sports event, Igor Kretov, the races acquired such a scale only in the third year of the event. ‘Over a thousand children in five age categories took part in the race. Over a thousand people in the races on 5 and 10 km. Percentage of 20 participants – visitors’, Igor Kretov said.
The event ended with a debriefing. Record holders received gift certificates from sponsors.
It is worth noting, registration for the race started in early May. Participants could get a runner's start package for two days - May 31 and May 1. It includes: a branded T-shirt, a chest number, a bracelet and a sensor.
