At the end of September, Mariupol will host the Ukrainian Boxing Cup among elite men as part of the 52nd Makar Mazay Memorial. The corresponding memorandum was signed in Kiev by the Mayor Vadym Boichenko with the Boxing Federation of Ukraine. Sports cooperation will bring the development of Mariupol boxing to a new level and the city will become the arena for national competitions of the highest standard.
The purpose of the memorandum is the development and popularization of boxing in Mariupol and Ukraine. At the meeting, the parties discussed important aspects of preparation for the official competition. The Cup of Ukraine 2020 will be in fact the first major Olympic boxing tournament in our country after a long break due to COVID-19.
According to the Mayor, the memorandum of cooperation between Mariupol and the Ukrainian Boxing Federation is another step towards creating new opportunities. This basic principle is laid down in the new strategy for the development of Mariupol until 2030.
Mariupol is already moving towards the development of sports culture and infrastructure. The city has revived the holding of the Makar Mazay Memorial. It has become a springboard for dozens of young athletes into the world of sports.
“Boxing is a prime example of a sport that uses not only the muscles of the body but also the intellect. This sport is about strategic vision, planning, assessing opportunities and decisive action. I am sure that through boxing and other sports we will give the right vector of development for children. Therefore, Mariupol will proudly host the Ukrainian Boxing Cup among men. This is an opportunity for us to confirm the thesis that our city is strong, smart and inspiring. We create a maximum of new opportunities for young people so that they can get a professional sports future in Mariupol, ” Vadym Boichenko said.
The Mayor appreciated the President of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine Volodymyr Prodivus for his confidence in Mariupol. The Ukrainian Boxing Cup will open up new opportunities for our residents and athletes from other cities will discover the promising Mariupol.
“The Ukrainian Boxing Cup is really a very important tournament for us. In the coming days we will be able to see our boxers in action. Combat practice is now very important because the most important thing is the fight for licenses for the Tokyo-2021 Olympics. It is doubly pleasant that it is in this wonderful city that we are restarting the 2020 season. I am sure that Mariupol has all the possibilities to turn into a real sports capital of Ukraine in the near future, ” Vladimir Prodivus stressed.
The event will be held in compliance with quarantine standards. Mariupol will be represented by three boxers: Rostislav Belostotsky, Dmitry Rybalko and Maxim Pilipets. All of them are past winners of Makar Mazay Memorial.
