Sculptures of Nielsen have become the "highlight" of the tourist walk around Mariupol

Within the framework of “Tourist Walk around Mariupol” project, it is planned to open several excursions around the historical part of our city. This weekend the first walking route has been launched. You can find six thematic sculptures of a famous Mariupol architect Viktor Nielsen.

The length of the route is about 3 kilometers. It follows the places historically significant for Mariupol. For the convenience of residents and visitors of the route, road markings are embedded in the pavement. Informational signs with QR codes are placed at each location. Scanning them through the mobile application, you can learn more about the historical facts of the city.

Thematic sculptures of Nielsen can be found near the water tower, City Garden and an industrial college. At the Theater Square, in the courtyard of ‘Molodioznhyi’ Palace of Culture and at the bus station.

The Chief Specialist of the Department of Tourism Development and Promotion of Mariupol City Council Victoria Davva told that the project is a USAID grant program. It is being implemented on the initiative of “Vezha” and support of Mariupol City Council.

‘This route united the maximum number of historical buildings in Mariupol - 17. The purpose of the excursion is to interest the youth in the history of the native city and pay attention to Mariupol as a tourist city. The project will help preserve historic buildings,’ Victoria Davva said.

Everybody, who is interested in it, can join the planned guided tour. Announcements about the date and time of the event can be found on the official Facebook page “Mariupol - a tourist city” and in ‘Vezha’ creative space. At a time, groups of 15 to 20 people are recruited. The tour is free.
