An emergency meeting of the special commission on technogenic and environmental safety and emergencies, headed by Mayor Vadim Boychenko, has taken place in the morning. Services of Mariupol reported on the situation. Special brigades have been formed. They eliminate the consequences of bad weather in an emergency mode. Several hundred employees of all municipal enterprises of the city are involved in the work.
‘There is an emergency in Mariupol. During 6 hours of downpour, an abnormal amount of precipitation fell, which significantly exceeded the monthly norm. The water level in the river and reservoirs has risen by more than a meter. In some flooded areas, the water was over two meters. According to experts, Mariupol has not seen such a natural disaster for the last 30 years. All services were mobilized as much as possible and were involved in eliminating the consequences of bad weather,’ Vadym Boichenko said.
Yesterday, from 9.00 to 20.00, 55 mm of precipitation fell in Mariupol, which is a one and a half month norm. This is classified as a “red” hazard level. Service 15-55 accepted all applications from residents. About 600 consultations were recorded.
Konstantin Pismariov, director of the department for managing energy enterprises, said that 88 transformer substations were turned off yesterday. The main reason is flooding. Almost all stations were resumed overnight. Others will connect during the day.
According to Serhii Marchuk, director of the housing and communal infrastructure development department, flooding was found in 138 high-rise buildings. They will consider how to increase the diameter of the drainage system so that it does not flood anymore. 30% of houses have already been surveyed, problems have been eliminated.
Flooding occurred in Primorsky Park. 125 specialists and 14 pieces of equipment are involved in cleaning up the consequences of soil reclamation. About 100 private sector houses were flooded.All the consequences of bad weather have been eliminated in the Levoberezhny and Kalmiusky districts. All services pump out water from the night in the houses of the Central and Primorsky districts. Today, about 60 houses remain flooded.
Director of “Mariupolavtodor” Serhii Ostapenko stressed that the most problematic areas were Lunin Square, Kirov and Hromova Street. Storm drainage capacity has been reduced due to debris and silt. Avtodor employees pulled 45 tons of garbage from storm drains in a week, including even a refrigerator. To date, 30 people have been involved, 13 pieces of equipment.
Bad weather also affected the work of municipal transport. From 13.45 to 20.00 the movement of trolleybuses was suspended yesterday. Today, all vehicles are operating normally. Work continues on clearing the tram track.
The heads of district administrations spoke in detail about the consequences of bad weather and key problem locations. Employees of utilities, rescue and emergency services eliminate all the consequences.
‘The work will continue. Our goal is to eliminate all the consequences of bad weather in the residential sector. We will also work on social facilities and to improve the clearing of storm water systems. Due to all the employees of public utilities who are working to eliminate the consequences of the rain,’ Vadym Boichenko said.
