Mayor of Mariupol, Vadym Bochenko, has spoken at a meeting of the Council for the Development of Communities and Territories chaired by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Mayor noted that the solution of infrastructure issues will give a new impetus to the development of Mariupol and the community of Donetsk region.
“Mariupol has gone through a difficult path of testing. Since 2014, our city has become stronger and has learned to move forward. We accepted 120 000 “new Mariupol residents” into the community. Together they began to build a showcase of the restored Ukrainian Donbas. Today, within the framework of decentralization, as the main reform, we have found opportunities to develop and implement projects. To become the most open and transparent city in Ukraine, ” Vadym Boichenko stressed.
He noted that the success of Mariupol consists of three key issues. This is effective budget management according to Mariupol formula, where 60% of funds are directed to operating expenses, and 40% to development and openness and transparency of all processes, as well as the Development Strategy of Mariupol-2021, based on the needs of people.
Vadym Boichenko spoke about the successful practices of Mariupol. The support of condominiums, the creation of a modern transport model, the reboot of utilities, the opening of centers for the provision of administrative services, the development of mass sports are among them. He also noted that the holding of the first investment forum of Ukraine in Mariupol in 2019 had a positive impact on the development of the city. He received a huge investment support of UAH 160 million from international partners. In particular, they are aimed at the development of municipal transport and the modernization of the water supply system.
The Mayor also stressed that for the full development of Mariupol, it is necessary to solve logistical issues. The renewal of the entire rolling stock of cars and the reduction of the time spent on the way "Mariupol - Kiev" to 10 hours are among them. He asked to consider the possibility of reopening of Mariupol airport in the future.
“Today Mariupol residents are inspired by their hometown. Due to decentralization and its capabilities, we have returned the love of residents to it. 86% of them are proud to live in Ukrainian Mariupol. And 73% of our youth began to associate their future with our city, ” Vadym Boichenko stressed.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that the city is on the path of development. He visited the city by the sea several times at the opening of significant infrastructure facilities.
“Mariupol is a wonderful city. There is something to be proud of, and someone to be proud of, ” the President of Ukraine noted.
In conclusion, Vadym Boichenko invited all residents of Ukraine to visit the bright events of Mariupol, which this year has become the Big Cultural Capital.
“Mariupol is worth your attention,” the Mayor summed up.
