Freedom Square is already boldly accepting guests. She managed to fall in love with residents and guests of the city. Everyone can take a walk under the largest fountain in Ukraine, enjoy a unique light show, visit a food hall and children can have fun on a modern playground. The total cost of the project is about UAH 180 million. Sources of financing are city and regional budgets. Mayor, Vadym Boichenko, examined the result of the reconstruction and talked to the residents.
“This is not just a comfortable space for relaxation. This is a place filled with meanings and symbols of freedom and peace. This is a “smart book” that tells the story of Mariupol. It transforms depending on the format of the events taking place there ",
Mayor Vadym Boichenko said.
Thus, the dynamic light pedestrian fountain entered the Ukrainian Book of Records as the largest. Its length is 36 meters, the width of the fountain is 7.5 meters. In the warm season, residents and guests of the city can walk under the water arch.
The stage became the epicenter of the square's life. It combines a performance area and a seating area. There is a spacious m.Food area under it. And due to the light show, the square becomes an interactive space. Projects in the form of "doves of peace" were installed there. At the same time, they project bright pictures, flowers and dolphins onto the square. On the wings of birds you can see a unique ornament for each region of Ukraine.
Landscaping works have also been carried out on the square. About 3.5 thousand trees, flowers and shrubs were planted there. Among them: magnolias, cherry blossoms, red maples, tulip trees, Japanese spireas and roses. About 12 thousand square meters of rolled lawn have been laid.
As the deputy mayor Olexandr Kochurin said, the elements of the renovated Freedom Square hide the history of events and feelings that have been inherent in our city and the country as a whole, since 2014. The sculpture "Opposition" by the famous Ukrainian architect Olexiy Zolotariov is designed to reflect on what is happening to us and around us. Nearby you can see the mural "Milan". It depicts a girl injured during the tragedy on the "Vostochny"district. During the shelling, she lost her mother, who saved her by covering her with herself. It recalls the fate of man and thousands of such stories.
At the end of the square there is a Peace Bell. There are similar memorials in many countries of the world. They are symbols of the global solidarity of the people of the Earth.
