The meeting of the Deputy Mayor Serhiy Zakharov with the representatives of the historical community of the city has been held in the technical lyceum. The suggestions on the reconstruction of Nielsen Str. were discussed. It is planned to be made as a pedestrian cycle and to save its historical view.
‘Architect Nielsen Str. is located in the historical part and it demands a special attention. Over 12 architectural objects that are important for the history and culture of the city are located here. It is important for us to have a dialogue that is why we decided to discuss it with the professional community and decide the best ways to reconstruct it,’ Serhiy Zakharov said.
It is planned to reconstruct the part of the street from cultural and tourist center ‘Vezha’ to City Center. That is about 1 km. This part is planned to be closed from the cars in accordance with the tendencies. There will be a pedestrian area for walks and cycle lanes. Parking structure in Pushkina Str. is planned to be created. Besides, the street is going to be made green by planting shrubs and trees.
The key problem Serhiy Zakharov said is preservation of architectural objects that are in private ownership in the vast majority. The house with lions is among of them.
‘The idea of reconstruction is great. But we need to understand that this will raise the attention to the real estate in the historical part of the city. Respectively, the destruction of buildings can start. It is necessary to list the objects in the list of cultural heritage sites. Thus, we can protect them,’ Andriy Marusov, the chairman of non-governmental organization ‘Arch-city’ admitted.
A proposed project with visualization from an architectural company from Dnipro was shown. The audience liked the idea of creating a kind of "wave" along the street with the help of different paving. Viacheslav Zabavin, an archaeologist and lecturer at Mariupol State University, suggested installing art objects that would make this area attractive for young people and tourists.
