The first lady of Ukraine gives Ukrainian school books to Mariupol

Maryna Poroshenko has visited Donetsk region with a working visit. In the framework of the program of Poroshenko Foundation “Ukraine - United”, the First Lady transferred 16,000 Ukrainian-language textbooks for schools in Mariupol and adjacent areas.

During her visit to Mariupol, Maryna Poroshenko visited a Hub School No. 66. Here she talked with pupils - visited the exhibition of paintings by Anastasia Zhuravleva and looked at the preparation of schoolchildren for St. Nicholas Day.

The first lady said that she learned about the lack of Ukrainian-language textbooks at the beginning of the school year during her visit to the Slavic Inclusive Center. There she complained about the lack of new books. Then, while communicating with the chairman of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, Alexander Kutz, it turned out that Donetsk region was provided with textbooks in the state language only by 30%. Maryna Poroshenko quickly responded to the situation and today she has handed over a batch of printed textbooks.

‘Then it was decided that graduates of schools in the Donetsk region, who have graduated from school this year, have the opportunity to qualitatively prepare for the delivery of external independent assessment and have equal opportunities for admission to Ukrainian universities,’ Maryna Poroshenko said.

The Poroshenko Foundation “Ukraine - United” purchased 30,000 Ukrainian-language textbooks in the amount of UAH 2.2 million. The first batch of books, 16,000 textbooks, the spouse of the President of Ukraine transferred to educational institutions of Mariupol and adjacent areas.

‘Mariupol received as many textbooks as it was needed. Pupils will now be engaged in high-quality and modern textbooks.All the books in all subjects and for all classes have been received’,
the Mayor Vadim Boichenko noted.

Being in Volnovakha, Maryna Poroshenko visited the local school number 5. There the First Lady got acquainted with the work of an inclusive resource center. She handed over textbooks, which will be given to the secondary education institutions of Selidovo, Ugledar, Novogorodivka, Velikonovoselkovsky and Volnovakha districts. In addition, she handed the keys to the apartments to orphans. She also honored the memory of the victims of the terrorist attack in Volnovakha, laying flowers at a memorial sign laid at the site of the tragedy.
