A delegation of Deputies of the Estonian Parliament and People's Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada have arrived in Mariupol on a working visit. Mayor Vadym Boichenko met with them.
The Mayor spoke about the city's successes over the past six years. They are based on Development Strategy, effective budget management and transparency. This made it possible to attract foreign investment and launch large-scale development projects. The security, the integration of the “new Mariupol residents”, the break-even public utility enterprise “Komunalnyk” and the largest Center of Administrative Services in Ukraine are among the successful cases of Mariupol.
“Now we are developing a new Strategy until 2030. It is based on new opportunities for young people. In particular, we want to open the tourist potential of our city for the whole of Ukraine”,Vadym Boichenko said.
The Mayor also outlined the challenges that the city faces today on the path of even more dynamic development. There is the need to build a concrete road to strengthen the work of the port and the construction of an airport, which will solve logistical problems and will contribute to the development of tourism.
Marko Mihkelson, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Estonian Parliament, expressed support for our city. He noted that Mariupol is showing significant development. In his opinion, it shows that Ukraine can actively move forward even in difficult conditions. And the chairman of the parliamentary group Estonia-Ukraine Mati Raidma said that Mariupol reminds him of his native Estonia.
Ivanna Klimpush-Tsintsadze, deputy and chairman of the committee for Ukraine's integration into the European Union, said that Mariupol is an example of successful transformations for other cities in the region.
“Mariupol shows that we have the opportunity to develop through the reforms that are taking place in the country, such as the reform of decentralization. And if you wisely manage resources and set ambitious goals, then this gives a positive result,” the deputy noted.
The parties agreed on further cooperation, in particular, on conducting training on crisis management and attracting Estonian experience in IT and education.
