A working meeting has been held with the participation of UNHCR Representative in Ukraine Pablo Mateu and First Deputy Mayor Mykhaylo Kohut. Pablo Mateu is leaving his post, so he is leaving Ukraine. At the beginning of his work he visited Mariupol as one of the first cities. Today we summed up the results of many years of cooperation and talked about plans for the future.

‘There have been many events in Mariupol over the last five years. The city became richer by 100,000 new Mariupol residents. In difficult times, the Office of the High Commissioner has always provided effective assistance. People seeking protection in the new city were provided with basic necessities. They were helped with documents. A social housing program was launched. We are grateful for the support,’ Mykhailo Kohut said.

With the support of UNHCR, a city solidarity forum was established in the city. Its participants were representatives of donor countries. Later, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky organized an Investment Forum, which attracted foreign investors. Now Mariupol receives a lot of attention from international organizations and development partners.

Pablo Mateu said that when he first came to Mariupol, he saw that his initiatives needed to be supported. There was a clear goal to integrate all IDPs: ‘We are always ready to help. These were years of fruitful work and effective cooperation. We will continue to provide support, involving development partners,’ the UNHCR representative in Ukraine said.
