During the third week in the city there is no increase in morbidity, there is a decrease. This is the result of a pre-designed pandemic control algorithm. This was announced today, at a briefing on the epidemiological situation, by Mayor Vadym Boichenko.

"The increase in morbidity occurred earlier than expected, but we were fully prepared for it. During August-September, a package of measures was developed to combat the pandemic. Today we see the situation stabilizing. This is evidenced by the ratio of patients to the tested, " the Mayor said.

The Mayor noted that the number of tests in the city is not decreasing. About 1,000 people are tested daily on COVID-19. During the peak, about 300-400 confirmed patients were identified, today, with the same amount of testing, they are twice less. The number of hospitalizations has also decreased from 60 to 30.

An important role in stabilizing the situation was played by the new PCR laboratory installed in the city hospital №4. The device allows to do 300-400 tests a day. The design capacity is 600. The director of the city hospital №4 Volodymyr Zhyhil told about it.

“Laboratory tests play a key role in fighting infection. Due to the fact that we re-equipped our laboratory, we managed to dramatically increase the possibilities for the number of tests performed. This helps to quickly and correctly establish the patient's treatment. It gives an idea of the epidemiological situation in the city. It allows to unload a bed fund. If earlier it was necessary to wait for results of analyzes from 5 to 7 days, today statement of the analysis takes one day », the doctor told.

According to the director of city hospital №9 Olexander Zheleznyak, Mariupol is on a plateau. He noted that if at the end of October almost all the beds in the department were occupied, now there are only 28 people in 130 beds. It is also the result of a laboratory that allows you to quickly diagnose and increase the turnover of beds. The doctor also noted a decrease in the number of seriously ill patients.

“Due to a clear coronavirus control algorithm and surgical measures, we see a tendency to stabilize and reduce the disease. An important role in this is played by the PCR laboratory and the provision of hospitals and medical staff with everything they need. The situation is completely under control," Vadym Boichenko summed up.
