This is the optimal point for building a new air hub. This was announced at the forum "Mariupol 2030. Great investment opportunities", Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine by Olexandr Kubrakov.

According to him, since 2019 there has been a strict ban on the operation of the airport in the Azov region. The buffer zone was expanded. This decision is now being reconsidered.

‘I talked to the new chief of general staff yesterday. We have a constructive dialogue. I think that in two weeks we will come to some decision,’ the Minister said.

He added that the existing Mariupol airport cannot be restarted. Therefore, it is planned to build a new one. It will take about two years.

In turn, the chairman of the executive committee of the National Reform Council Mikheil Saakashvili stressed that the construction of the airport is a political decision that should not be based on reinsurance of the military. According to him, the best defense of Mariupol is rapid development. It is not possible without an airport.

It is worth noting that Mayor Vadym Boichenko repeatedly raised a question of need of construction of the airport for Mariupol. To meet all the requirements, two of its locations were proposed: near Mangush and at the junction of two regions - Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia.
