The Four Paws International Fund together with the City Council signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, according to which employees of the organization would be busy with sterilization and vaccination of homeless dogs in the city in order to regulate their numbers.
Mikhailo Kohut, the Deputy Mayor, noted that Mariupol changed the situation concerning homeless animals and looked at this problem from the other side. The Happy Animals utility company was created thanks to the joint efforts of the Executive Committee and deputy corps.
“I hope that our cooperation will be useful for the society. The task of this company is not only to deal with the problems of homeless animals, but also to teach people the humane attitude to such animals”, - Mikhailo Kohut added.
The Director of the Four Paws Ukraine organization says that the most humane way to regulate the number of homeless animals is sterilization and rabies vaccination. In Mariupol, veterinarians of the fund will carry out the necessary manipulations, and will eventually release them to the familiar environment. All animals that have passed the procedure have a tick on the ear with an individual number for documented dog fixation. Also, the Four Paws with the utility company signed an agreement that would exchange experiences on sterilization and vaccination between veterinarians of the organization and the city.
Anatoliy Baherkin, the Director of the Happy Animals utility company, thanked the representatives of the organization for the cooperation: “We are a new enterprise. It's important for us to work according to new methods. And this requires a lot to learn. I am sure that your organization will help us in this”.
Anna Zaitseva and Olha Pikula, the deputies of the City Council, who are working on the issue of homeless animals in the city, noted that the regulation of the quantity would reduce the aggressiveness of animals. They also added about the awareness of the population. So, thanks to the agreement between the Department of Education and the Kyiv-based designated company, schools will hold bioethics lessons. And self-organization committees of population will hand over booklets of the Four Paws Fund to the leaders of the committees in order to inform Mariupol citizens about humane and correct attitude towards animals.
