Mikheil Saakashvili, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the National Council of Reforms of Ukraine, has paid a working visit to Mariupol. During the trip, together with Mayor Vadym Boichenko, he visited the Mariupol sea trade port, met with businessmen and Mariupol youth. In addition, he visited Ilyich Iron and Steel Works.
Mikheil Saakashvili noted that Mariupol is a beautiful and clean city with potential for development.
‘Here you can create a showcase of Ukraine. Here you can create the power of Ukraine. Mariupol is a symbol of the future of Ukraine and should become it. But the whole country must work for this. In five years, people will come here from all over Ukraine and later from all over the world, they will come to the city of great prosperity and beauty. I believe in it and I see it,’ Mikheil Saakashvili said.
The Mayor stressed that Mariupol is developing dynamically. The city has a Development Strategy, which has already been implemented by 90%. About EUR 200 million of investments have been attracted in five years.
According to Vadym Boichenko, the city has zones of economic growth that require state support. The construction of a freight transport corridor that will ‘connect’ large enterprises with the port is among them.
‘The port is one of the basic branches of the economy and it needs to be supported. It is necessary to create a concrete road for full-fledged work. This is a return to direct investment that will fill the budget of the city and region. Such projects will allow revealing the economic potential of Mariupol,’ the Mayor said.
