Mayor of Mariupol, Vadym Boichenko, believes that it is necessary to move to a new stage of decentralization and increase the volume of taxes that will remain in cities by 5%. This will allow communities to reach a new level of development.

Mayor of Mariupol told about this to those, who participated in the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine.

‘Communities should have broad powers and sufficient funds to be able to resolve all local issues and become drivers of development for the entire country. Today, 60% of personal income tax remains in cities. An increase in tax by 5% is a financial resource that can be directed to the development of remote areas and settlements that have joined cities as part of the reform,’ he said.

Thus, as a result of the administrative reform, the territory of Mariupol has increased by 16 thousand hectares and it requires serious investments. The city has developed a program "City without outskirts", due to which residents of remote areas and villages will receive road repairs, lighting, gasification, repair of schools and outpatient clinics. Funding is needed to make it work at full capacity.

Besides, according to the Mayor, an important step for the development of communities is the creation of industrial parks. They will provide an opportunity to attract investment and create new jobs. The first steps have already been taken to build “AzovAquaInvest” industrial park in Mariupol. This will create more than 600 new jobs.
