Today, the festival of Greek culture "ΜέγαΓιορτή" takes place in Mariupol on the City Day. The main location of the festival was the renovated Hurov Park. A large-scale theatrical parade took place, which brought Greeks together not only from all over the Azov region, but also from all over Ukraine.
The festival is initiated by the Federation of Greek Societies of Ukraine with the support of Mariupol City Council. He showed the color, beauty and richness of the Greek communities of the Azov region. Residents learned more about the history of the city's founding and the people who helped develop it. They got acquainted with the cultural diversity of Greek people. Each community went out in their national costumes. They performed and showed the power of Greek culture. Communities from other cities of Ukraine also took part in the parade. There are Kiev, Odesa, Dnieper and Kharkiv among them.
The audience was amazed by the scale of the parade, which revealed to them the multicultural Mariupol. The park was decorated with flags of Ukraine, Greece and thematic photo areas.
‘We saw big emotions, beautiful people, bright costumes and talented young people. Our history has a deep past, our youth is shaping the present. They have a big future. I am sure that we must build a new country, Ukraine, on the basis of traditions, symbols and historical heroes. Its independence is only 30 years old and it is at the beginning of its path,’ Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boichenko said.
Μέγα Γιορτή is celebrated with a concert dedicated to the traditions of Greek culture. As well as fairs, where you can learn more about the customs of the Greeks of the Azov region. During the festival there are also competitions in wrestling - it is an integral part of all holidays and weddings of the Greeks of the Azov region.
Today, residents learned more about Greek traditions, and the reconstructed Gurov Park in Mariupol has become a symbol of Ukrainian-Greek friendship.
