On June 14, at 5 p.m., a solemn replenishment of the collection of the Mariupol Art Museum named after Arkhip Kuinji will take place. Mariupol philanthropists will present a bronze sculpture ‘John the Baptist’ to the house of art. It was recreated by a special order of the brothers with a plaster copy of the original to preserve the memory of the work of the great Auguste Rodin. It was cast by Kiev sculptor in bronze.
The statue ‘John the Baptist’ was created by Rodin in 1878.It is fully characterized by Rodin’s characteristic philosophical depth of design, acute vitality and vigorous volume modeling. About half a century ago, the original sculpture of Auguste Rodin ‘John the Baptist’ in electroforming was transferred to the National Academy of Fine Arts. For the convenience the students copied the shapes of the sculpture. It was from one of them that the sculptor Vyacheslav Pritula made a bronze ebb.
The statue ‘John the Baptist’ will be permanently stored in the museum, exhibited in a separate room. It will be dedicated to the works of Auguste Rodin. Having visited it, residents and guests of the city will be able to familiarize themselves with the works of the great master and touch the history.
