The stadium named after Vladimir Boyko has turned into a municipal communal property. The decision was made by the deputies at the XL City Council session. This will allow to develop football in Mariupol.

Today, because of the technical condition of the stadium, Mariupol can not hold matches of the League of Europe. Its transfer to the city property will allow for the necessary reconstruction and create all the necessary conditions to lead UEFA games. According to Aleksey Kazantsev, Head of Youth and Sports Department, the reconstruction will take place in the coming years.

It is worth noting that the stadium was built in 1956 and was originally called ‘Novator’. In 2001, it was reconstructed for the means of Illyich Iron and Steel Works on the personal initiative of Vladimir Boyko. This allowed Mariupol to become one of the centers of football life in Ukraine. In 2004, there was a match of the UEFA Cup at the stadium.
