Mariupol residents honors the memory of the liquidators at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant

A rally in memory of the liquidators of the Chernobyl accident has taken place in Mariupol. Residents of the city honored the heroes' feat with a minute of silence and laid flowers at the memorial to the Victims of the Chernobyl tragedy. The secretary of Mariupol city council Ksenia Sukhova, deputy mayors Serhiy Zakharov and Olexander Kochurin paid tribute to the participants in the liquidation.

“This accident claimed hundreds of lives of our compatriots. She showed how fragile the world is and how important it is to cherish it. Today we pay tribute to the memory and respect of those heroes who often fought a terrible catastrophe at the cost of their own lives, ” Serhiy Zakharov said.

It should be noted that today more than 1,500 people are living in Mariupol, who participated in the liquidation or suffered from the Chernobyl disaster.
