During the first International Investment Forum RE: think. Invest in Ukraine signed a Declaration of Intent between the Government of France, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Mariupol City Council for the development of water supply and purification infrastructure in the city of Mariupol. The total investment in the project is more than EUR 90 million. It will help to provide a half-million city with quality drinking water.

The declaration was signed by Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boichenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Ukraine Etienne de Ponsen, Head of the EIB Representative Office in Ukraine Jean-Eric de Zagon and Director of the Department of Credit Operations in the Public Sector in Eastern Europe EIB Lionel Rapay.

‘The focus of our attention is a question that has not been solved for 95 years and it excites the half-million community. The project needs a colossal financial resource. This gives a firm belief that quality water is a reality,’
Vadym Boichenko noted.

The European Investment Bank will help with the reconstruction of the water supply system in Mariupol. The amount of the project is more than EUR 27 million. The partner will also provide technical support, it will develop a feasibility study in accordance with international standards.

According to the agreement, the funds will be allocated for the reconstruction of pumping stations, biological treatment plants, over 40 km of water pipelines and restoration of one of the pressure collectors.

It is worth noting, this year the corresponding agreement between the governments of Ukraine and France was ratified by the Ukrainian Parliament. According to it, about EUR 64 million will be allocated to finance Mariupol water supply project. This project is a pilot for the whole of Ukraine. It aims to solve the issues of using an alternative source of water supply, minimize water loss and improve its quality.

The declaration will determine the joint actions of all parties to improve the quality of drinking water, starting from treatment and ending with its transportation through the network to the tap.
