Mariupol has been visited by the head of the representative office of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Ukraine Lotta Silvander and parliamentary secretary of state of the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany Maria Flaksbart. The guests got acquainted with the work of the Youth Center and the Family Support Center.
The centers were established in 2016. They serve the population of the Central region. Annually about 10 thousand people receive services in them.
‘The support center helps families in difficult life circumstances. Here they can get psychological and legal assistance. There are also parent clubs, an art therapy room, carpentry and pottery workshops at the center,’ Lyubov Galchenko, director of the Mariupol City Center for Social Services of Family, Children and Youth said.
Maria Flaksbart and Lotta Silvander talked with young people. They were interested in their assessment of the activities of the centers and the help they receive here. In the training room of the Family Support Center, youth program participants presented projects aimed at changing the city. They were dedicated to solving the transport problem, improving conditions for people with disabilities and popularizing the history of Mariupol.
‘I have seen that your hometown is not indifferent to you. It is especially important that you are ready to take the future into your own hands. It is important for each of you to have an idea how to build your future,’ Maria Flaksbart addressed to the audience.
At the end of the meeting, she appreciated the representatives of the centers for their work. Maria Flaksbart gave a soccer ball for the long memory.
