European Union mission visits Mariupol

The European Union acquaintance mission led by Thomas Mayer-Garting, Director of the European External Action Service on Europe and Central Asia, and Peter Wagner, Head of the Ukrainian Support Group at the European Commission, came to Mariupol to study the situation in the region. Today, they have met with the representatives of the city government, regional state administration and city-forming enterprises to learn about the development and problems of the city.

A group of high-level officials of the European Union will visit areas of Ukraine bordered on the Sea of ​​Azov. They need to study  economic, social and political situation in the region. Based on the findings of the mission, the European Union will assess how to increase support for the Azov region, in particular, based on existing programs and in cooperation with European financial institutions.

The delegation was met by the Secretary of  Mariupol City Council Stepan Mahsma, the Deputy Mayor Ksenia Sukhova, the Deputy Chairman of the Donetsk Regional State Administration Igor Stokoz, the Director of the Mariupol Sea Commercial Port and the Head of the Mariupol Branch of the Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine Igor Barskiy.

‘We are very pleased to be in Mariupol. Today we want to get your point of view on foreign aid and how we can strengthen our cooperation. We came to help and mitigate the situation faced by residents of Mariupol and beyond, ‘ the  Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Hyug Mingarelli said.

In turn, the Secretary of Mariupol City Council Stepan Mahsma spoke about the achievements and problems of Mariupol. He stopped at the work of the authorities with resettlers, solving the problem of water supply and the development of education.
