Mariupol joins ‘Earth Hour’ worldwide initiative

March 30, an environmental campaign ‘Earth Hour’ will take place in Mariupol. All those who wish to join the global campaign and turn off the light for an hour at 8.30 p.m.

In the run-up to the Earth Hour, thematic classes will be held at the educational institutions of the city concerning the issues of ecology, environmental protection and energy saving.

Mariupol city council supports the ‘Earth Hour’, in this regard, it offers to budget institutions and enterprises on March 30 not to switch on the light from 8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

This campaign continues to increase its turnover and beat its own records. In 2018, around 18,000 monuments in 188 countries were switched off to attract people's attention to the problems of the planet. The total number of publications with the mention of the Earth Hour slogan 2018 #Connect2Earth has reached more than 3.5 billion.

It is worth noting that Mariupol is moving in the direction of energy development and preservation of the environment. It is a member of the Energy Cities Association and a partner of the USAID Project Municipal Energy Reform in Ukraine. Various programs on energy efficiency and ecology are being implemented in the city. All-Ukrainian actions "Bikeday", "Week of energy efficiency", "Day without a car" are held in the city.
