The Deputies voted during the regular session of the City Council for joining the European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in the life of local communities. First, the plan of action for its implementation is going to be developed, then it is going to be signed. It provides the help of local governments to achieve equality in communities.
The charter was developed by the Council of European Municipalities and Regions in 2004. The document calls on regional and local governments to take the responsibility to use existing powers and partnerships to achieve greater equality of their citizens.
The signing of the Charter allows local governments to demonstrate loyalty to the principles of equality of women and men and the obligation to implement them on the territory of their activities. To do this, each signatory body develops a plan of action for achieving equality where they will determine priorities, actions and resources for their organization.
The European Charter for the Equality of Women and Men in the life of local communities have been accepted by almost all European cities.
