Mariupol is ready for the second wave of the pandemic. The city is provided with the individual protective means, medicines, necessary amount of beds and equipment. The heads of the hospitals who take part in the fight off the coronavirus infection said about that to the city mayor Vadym Boichenko.
“Mariupol has developed a successful algorithm of the resistance with COVID-19. It is effective because our city was in a “green zone” for 6-7 months. Today Mariupol is living in an “orange zone” because these processes are integrated with the moments that happen in the world and in our country. Mariupol has certain plans and algorithms of actions in struggle against Covid-19 for 2020 and 2021”, Vadym Boichenko admitted.
Deputy mayor Ksenia Sukhova said that today there is a positive trend in Mariupol - more than 58% of all patients have recovered. 647 PCR analyses were performed per day. 15 times more than the Ministry of Health of Ukraine requires. Today, 603 beds have been deployed in Mariupol for patients with coronavirus infection. 57% are employed. Today, all medical institutions are provided with everything necessary to provide medical care to patients.
Vadym Boichenko stressed that over the past 24 hours a record number of people recovered in Mariupol - 317. According to him, this is the result of the work of doctors and the implemented algorithm of actions.
The opening of a pharmacy department, which was among the first in Ukraine, is helping in the fight against COVID-19. “A sufficient number of beds is deployed in the provisional department - 230. 43% of them are currently occupied. This is a good result. The pharmacy department helps to sort out patients with COVID-19 and continue their treatment and patients whose diagnosis is not confirmed can be transferred to outpatient treatment in primary centers,” the director of the city hospital No. 9, Alexander Zheleznyak said.
The main role in reducing the percentage of patients is assigned to the launch of a new PCR laboratory. If earlier you had to wait 6-7 days for test results, now they can be got the next day.
“This is the only PCR laboratory in Donetsk region. If earlier she did only 12 studies per day, then they started to do 400 and more with the purchase of new equipment. It fully covers the need of our medical institutions for making a diagnosis. Due to it, the number of people who have recovered increases due to a quick diagnosis, which leads to more effective treatment. As a result, the turnover of beds is increasing,” Volodymyr Zhigil, director of the city hospital №4 says.
In turn, the director of the city hospital №1 Larisa Mamaeva noted that equipping hospital bases with oxygen posts plays a big role in the recovery of patients. As you know, one of the complications of COVID-19 is a violation and decrease in saturation, that is, oxygen saturation. High quality oxygen is supplied by the Metivnest Group.
“One of the means in the fight against coronavirus infection and its complications is oxygen inhalation. This is one of the components of the treatment that contributes to the speedy recovery of our patients. Currently, there are 313 oxygen points deployed in hospitals. They are 50% full now. We have a big backlash. But we will not stop there. Now additional 30 beds will be deployed in the city hospital №9, ” Larisa Mamaeva said.
According to the director of the emergency hospital, Sergei Orleansky, oxygen supply is a great help for treating a patient with COVID-19. If the situation is difficult, then modern ventilators help.
“These are professional devices of an expert class - they are not invasive, the tube does not need to be inserted into the lungs. There are 40 devices in Mariupol. They are intelligent and choose the modes themselves, depending on the degree of damage to the lung tissue. Even an average medical worker can operate these devices”, he stressed.
Ksenia Sukhova added that a conversation was held with the governor of Donetsk region regarding the purchase of oxygen concentrators - these are mobile devices that can be carried from ward to ward: “This is also important equipment that can be in reserve or fully used. 205 oxygen concentrators are already in procurement near Mariupol. Besides, today we have 15 concentrators in procurement from the local budget. Accordingly, 220 oxygen concentrators will come to us by January 15 and will be delivered to us in three tranches”.
The director of the health department, Andrei Rempel, summed up that today there are 160 beds in reserve on the basis of city hospitals No. 4 and 9. Repairs have been made there and soft and hard equipment is being purchased. Besides, to serve patients who are on outpatient treatment, 40 mobile teams have been formed on the basis of the primary health care center. According to statistics, 85% of patients today are treated on an outpatient basis.
The city contact center 15-55 is working for prompt response and consultation. According to the deputy mayor Olena Paramonova, his staff will help you quickly give an answer which primary health care center you need to contact, what to do if a declaration is not concluded and help on the general mechanism of action in case of certain symptoms.
“Each center has created mini contact centers that call out patients on outpatient treatment. About 1000 patients are called daily. The system notes the state of each of them and then the medical staff makes a decision - to go home or continue treatment on an outpatient basis”, she said.
In the event of symptoms, doctors urge residents to contact their family doctor, for advice - Contact Center 15-55 and in case of a sharp complication - dial "103".
“I call on Mariupol residents to support our medical workers. They are today on the frontline of the fight against COVID-19, they have received a heavy load. They work around the clock to protect our lives and health. Treatment is not so terrible, provided that it is timely. It also depends on our human position. There are three simple rules: wearing a mask in public, keeping your distance and handling your hands. Take care of yourself, your family and friends!”,Vadym Boichenko said.
