Two Mariupol women have been awarded a scholarship by the President of Ukraine for scientific work. Mayor Vadym Boichenko also awarded the young researchers for their success.

One of the winners is a student of Lyceum-School No.14 Vladyslava Butenko. She took first place in the All-Ukrainian competition of the Small Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the section "Sociology". The girl presented a scientific study on the problem of suicide among adolescents.

‘I became interested in this topic when the so-called "death games" began to spread in our city. I wanted to understand why my peers are ready to die,’ Vladyslava says.

The girl shared her thoughts with the institution's psychologist Natalia Moskvina. She suggested conducting research on the subject. During the year, Vladyslava conducted a survey of more than 300 adolescents in Mariupol, processed data and drew conclusions with the help of her supervisor.

‘She is a very active and creative girl. Many are interested and ready to work hard, which is very important for success. For my part, I tried to reveal its potential, to help design its materials for scientific research,’ Natalia Moskvina said.

As a result, Vladyslava managed to come round 18 rivals from all over Ukraine and take first place. The girl says her emotions overwhelmed her because she did not even dream of a Presidential scholarship.

Kateryna Kushnerenko, a student of the Technical Lyceum, took second place in the Academy of Sciences competition in the Art History section. However, her lag was minimal, so she also won a scholarship from the leader of the state.

In her scientific work, the girl explored art objects in the modern artistic space of Mariupol. She studied murals, sculptures and an open-air museum. In addition, she developed a tourist route.

‘I wanted to determine how to make our city more attractive for tourists by focusing on art objects. After all, art allows you to see Mariupol from a different angle and reveal its potential,’ Kateryna says.

The girl was assisted by her supervisors - Tatiana Deordieva and Ella Lukyanenko. They guided the student and jointly developed a tourist route. In addition, the consultation was provided by the head of the branch of the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture Halyna Batychko.

Kateryna says that the President's scholarship was very unexpected for her, but confirmed that she is on the right track. The young researcher plans to connect her life with tourism and, in the future, contribute to the attractiveness of her hometown - Mariupol.
