Deputy Mayor Olexander Kochurin has held a number of meetings with active representatives of parental committees from different schools of the city to discuss the prospects for the development of the educational process of the middle and higher levels.

The meetings were held in the renovated educational and cultural institutions: in schools No. 47, 26 and the City Palace of Culture. Olexander Kochurin conducted a short excursion around the renovated institution at school 26, which will become the educational and methodological center of Primorsky District. There is everything here for teaching children and the comfort of teachers: new classrooms are equipped with multimedia equipment, a modern gym has been created, the canteen and catering have been updated.

Olexander Kochurin discussed with active parents an innovation - the creation of a Service Center, which will deal with the maintenance of schools and kindergartens: ‘This is a pilot project. We plan to create four brigades - one for each district. Specialists will travel to educational institutions to eliminate technical problems - sewer maintenance, replacement of windows, light bulbs and minor repairs. It implies the implementation of planned and emergency work.’

The topic of the development of higher education in the city and its relationship with the high school was also discussed. According to Olexander Kochurin, there will be two types of schools in Mariupol because of the education reform: gymnasiums with an elementary form of education and specialized schools, where children will be able to enter after the end of the ninth grade.

Every lyceum will be redesigned for higher educational institutions. This will help build an effective ‘social elevator’. Thus, for example, a student will be able to enter the Technical Lyceum, then study at a medical university, and after find a job at the Cardiovascular Center.

For the successful implementation of such a task, it is necessary to open multidisciplinary higher educational institutions. Today there are six of them. There are plans to open a new private university Metinvest Polytechnic.

‘It is important to create new opportunities for children. Motivate them to stay in their hometown. Higher education can become the point of new economic transformations. The American city Pittsburgh took this path. Youth is our future. We must fight for it,’ Olexander Kochurin emphasized.

He asked the parents for their opinion on the need to open a new university. Parents supported this initiative.

‘Children should have a choice. Moreover, there is no need to go to another city for a quality education,’ Olesya, a representative of the parent committee of school # 28 said.
