Today, the Central Police Department has become even more accessible for Mariupol residents. The department has been modernized to address the problems of inclusiveness of people with disabilities. So that everyone has the opportunity to independently get to the citizens' reception room and get basic services without hindrance.
As part of the Accessible Police Department project, a ramp was installed in front of the main entrance to the police station. The entrance itself has been expanded according to the size of the wheelchair. There are parking places for people with disabilities and a call button on duty. A separate sanitary room is open. A tactile tile track has been added for people with vision problems. In order to understand everyone who needs help, the police have mastered sign language.
The Deputy Mayor Ksenia Sukhova noted: ‘Modernization projects in Mariupol are aimed at supporting people with disabilities and creating equal opportunities for everybody. It must be comfortable to live, to study, to work and develop in his native city for everybody’.
In Mariupol, ‘Social Taxi’ has already been working. Municipal vehicles with low floor and accessibility items are being purchased. Houses and institutions are equipped with ramps. The equipment of an accessible playground is underway’.
‘The Mariupol police is changing, trying to improve in all aspects, paying attention to every detail, it is becoming more and more open to people. Such an approach has the result, it is impossible not to notice how confidence in law enforcement authorities is growing, ‘Sergey Bychin, the head of the Central Police Department said.
