Head of the Department for Ecology, Energy Management and Labor Protection Vahagn Mnatsakanyan has held a working conference with an expert from France Philippe Aspital. They discussed the Clean Environment project online. It is part of Mariupol-2030 Development Strategy.

Members of the project working group also joined the discussions. Public activists, city council members and members of the Green Council under the executive committee are among them. They spoke about their vision of sustainable ecological development in Mariupol.

“Only complex interaction at different levels can give an effective result. The topic of a clean environment covers many issues related to the life of the city. The municipality should develop Mariupol together with the townspeople, ” Vahagn Mnatsakanyan emphasized.

In turn, the French expert shared his vision of the developments of the draft Strategy. In his work, he compared Mariupol with 10 cities in the world. Amsterdam, La Rochelle, Halifax, New York and Dunkirk are among them; positive examples of these cities can be realized in our city.

The strategic goals have four main directions: development and support of urban ecology, reducing human impact on the environment, increasing environmental awareness of the population, increasing the ecosystem's resilience to the consequences of climate change.

“The creation of the Strategy is a great advantage that demonstrates the desire of the city authorities to make efforts to achieve sustainable development of the city. The most important issues for the citizens of water, air, youth and well-being should be taken as the basis for the future Strategy, ” Philippe Aspital said.
