The EU is ready to support two projects to improve transport link with Mariupol

The European Union will develop the infrastructure of the Azov Sea. It has been stated by Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladimir Omelyan during the meeting with Ambassador, Head of the EU Delegation in Ukraine Hugh Mingarelli.

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, the meeting was also attended by Jean-Erik de Zagon, Chairman of the Representation Office of the European Investment Bank in Ukraine, the representatives of the management of Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukravtodor and the Administration of Seaports of Ukraine. The parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation. The particular attention was devoted to the development of the infrastructure of the Azov region and the implementation of the Association Agreement by Ukraine.

The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine noted that the Azov region is at the center of attention of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, the Government and the Ministry of Infrastructure: ‘We are talking about Azov as a point of resistance to Russian aggression at sea. The issue of strengthening the security of Mariupol and Berdyansk is in the field of special attention of the Head of State. In our turn, we are talking about the development of the infrastructure of this region, as one of the important projects both in terms of strengthening security and because of stimulating the growth of economic and social and cultural development of the region’.

The Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Hugh Mingarelli noted that the European institutions are ready to support two projects, concerning  improvement of the Zaporozhye-Mariupol railway link and construction of the Mariupol-Nikolaev route. It is now about the development of a preliminary feasibility study for both projects involving the EIB funding.
