Police officers of the community will be watching over the maintenance of order this autumn in Vinogradnoye, Pokrovskoye, Berdyanskoye and Stary Krym villages. This is a project of the National Police of Ukraine, Mariupol municipality has joined to.

According to Deputy Mayor Arkady Meshkov, the goal of the project is to provide effective security services to new settlements that have become part of the Mariupol United Territorial Community.

‘We supported this project, taking into account the new realities of our administrative structure. Officers will be fully integrated into community processes. Moreover, they will be accountable to the residents. For its part, the municipality will carry out infrastructural improvements for the operation of the police stations,’ he said.

Senior Inspector of the National Police Yana Khodchenko said that the project was first implemented two years ago. Now it operates in 19 regions. The community police officer combines the functions of four services: a district officer, a juvenile prevention inspector, a patrol police response inspector and a licensing system specialist.

‘He will work 24/7 in his community. The officers will be accountable not to the police, but to the residents,’ she said.

Director of the Department for Security and Anti-Corruption Hryhory Berezun emphasized that funds will be used to repair the premises where officers will be accommodated. They will also buy furniture and special safes for storing weapons.
