An architectural team from Berlin has won the International open architectural competition of ideas for the improvement of the Liberation Square and revitalization of DOSAAF building with the adjacent territory. The winners were selected by an international jury.

The members of the group of authors from Germany are Pavel Zabotin, Elena Kobets and Viktor Kopeikin. Their project is called "We glorify the foreign, but we don't know our own." His concept is to bring industrial society back to its roots. The modification of Zemskaya, Georgievskaya streets and Kovalsky lane is proposed, which, according to the architects, harmonizes the general concept.

A feature of the project is the new functional program of DOSAAF building and its courtyards. It was decided to keep the visual identity of the building. With minor changes to the façades, ground floor and patio, all visitors will be able to enjoy a modern space that is also integrated into the design area.

The project provides for the use of energy-saving technologies and the transformation of courtyards for various functions (festivals, cinemas and exhibitions). An additional feature of the project is the Secret Garden, which was designed to balance the composition of the square structures at the intersection of Mira Avenue and Nikolaevskaya Street.

The second place was taken by the project from Denmark, the third - from Ukraine. In total, architects from 25 countries fought for the victory. The international jury consisted of renowned architects and urbanists. There is  Stavros Gargaretas, the leading architect of the renowned Dutch architectural bureau MVRDV and Monika Konrad, the head of the Municipal Office for Urban Planning Strategy and Development of the City of Warsaw among them.
