For several years there has been a competition-exhibition of not purebred dogs in Mariupol. Mariupol residents demonstrate their favorites, their abilities and prove that fidelity and love are not dependent. This year the event was supported by the Public Budget program. Anna Zaitseva’s project won the competition of small grants to promote the development of culture, sports, youth policy and tourism.
# dream
The idea to hold such an event appeared a long time ago. We decided to coincide with the International Day of Stray Dogs. Many countries of the world organize charity events and various events. Their goal is to urge people not to be indifferent to homeless animals.
We started with small shares and in a few years reached the level of the city festival. Significant support was provided by ‘Public budget’ program.
# choose
‘Public Budget’ program was not chosen by chance. Last year I was a member of the competition committee. At the same time, specialists do not leave the authors of the project alone with difficulties. They help to draw up the necessary documents and technical orders. Such an attention did not leave me indifferent. And my decision to participate in the program for 2019 was undeniable.
# implement
The end of my collaboration with the Zoocontrol Mariupol volunteer association and the employees of the Department of Cultural and Social Development was ‘Friendship has no species’ festival. It was attended by more than 20 dogs. A photo contest was also held among outbred cats. All who wanted to participate in it sent e-mail photos of their favorites and the story of their meeting in advance. After the online voting was held on the site of Mariupol City Council. The photos of the top ten were printed and put up for competition in the City Garden.
# change
Organizing the festival, I wanted to show Mariupol residents that its participants are not just dogs and cats from the street. Each of the animals has its own fate and history of meeting with its owner. Each pet has a character, habits, it is interesting to spend time with it. I want to believe that this will push people to social responsibility. Understanding and realizing that every action has consequences. And we are responsible for animals that are not protected in the street. It has become possible with the help of ‘Public budget’!
