Today, Deputy Mayor Ksenia Sukhova has met with the representatives of the UN Children's Fund UNICEF. Its commission assessed the effectiveness of cooperation with the city government in UNICEF projects aimed at providing psychosocial assistance.
With the support of UNICEF, a number of projects are being implemented in five regions of the East of Ukraine. The commission has visited the cities of Kharkiv region, Severodonetsk, Slavyansk and Kramatorsk before. Thus, in Mariupol, existing centers of psychological help for children have been preserved and they want to document their work in order to set the city as an example.
Due to UNICEF, trainings were conducted for Mariupol psychologists and teachers. The work was also carried out to provide psychosocial care to non-profit organizations.
‘We try not only to preserve the gained knowledge, but also to increase it. It works because we talk about these services and provide a real psycho-social assistance. All our joint projects with UNICEF are successful. For Mariupol, the priority is given to people and the creation of comfortable living conditions for them in our city. For these purposes, we are looking for financial resources and the ways of cooperation,’ Ksenia Sukhova said.
In turn, the members of the UNICEF commission noted a high level of social support in Mariupol. One of the large-scale joint projects is ‘On the provision of psychosocial support to children affected by armed conflict’. Moreover, the creation of centers to support families and young people, which later became youth centers based on urban institutions has also been done.
