1991 Mariupol: The Prime-Minister of Ukraine opens the Center of development of IT start-ups in Mariupol

At a special ‘IT Stage’ event, within the framework of the first investment forum RE: think. Invest in Ukraine, the first Mariupol Development Center of Ukraine in the East, was officially opened in 1991. Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk opened the ceremony.

‘Mariupol is one of the most promising cities in Ukraine in terms of IT development. As far as it is true, prove your actions in the near future. Thank you to everyone who invests in such projects. I would like the Ukrainian IT industry to grow rapidly and efficiently. Companies have been preparing unique IT products and we have seen many bright projects born in Ukraine in the world. The more they are, the faster we will bring Ukraine to prosperity’, the Prime Minister emphasized.

He also wished the similar IT-spaces to appear in every city of Ukraine. According to him, this will be an example of digital transformation. The project partners who became equal participants in the creation of a new IT space became the participants. Among them there was Mariupol City Council, Metinvest Group, USAID, EIB and SocialBoost. Each of the organizations has made a significant contribution, provided sponsorship in the reconstruction of the premises, the purchase of furniture and equipment, the development of the program and the strategy of the future Center.

USAID Head of Mission Susan Fritz also addressed the forum participants: ‘I am pleased to be present during the opening of this IT hub. It is extremely important for me to realize that many international partners support us in the development of Mariupol. And our investment is a testament to our common desire of positive changes in Ukraine’.

1991 Mariupol is a platform for meeting innovators, young talents, active citizens, local government, business and investors. There will be a lot of training programs to support IT startups. ‘We want to bring Mariupol professionals together and create a unique product. It will also create conditions for the digital transformation of the region,’ Denis Gurskyi, the initiator of this project and the head of the Ukrainian technological organization SocialBoost said.

This platform has earned the location of the IT Stage Investment Forum. There was a discussion on communication between the authorities, business and community in the direction of development of the IT sphere in the East of Ukraine. They also discussed the topic of innovation and attracting foreign investments. IT-developers have presented their startups to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
