101 years of reunification: Mariupol celebrateds the Day of Unification of Ukraine

Today, January 22, the whole country celebrates the National Unity Day of Ukraine. Mariupol joined the general celebration. Representatives of the municipality, police, military and active public gathered to mark the date of reunification of Ukrainian lands near the monument to Taras Shevchenko.

The rally began with the solemn performance of the National Anthem. The participants were greeted by the first deputy mayor Mikhail Kogut.

‘No matter how much time has passed, the fire of Unity burns in our hearts. Thousands of Ukrainians died defending the unity and independence of our country. Today, we must, as never before, unite for the sake of building a modern and European Ukraine,’ he stressed.

During the rally, the student read ‘Zapovіt’ by Taras Shevchenko. The event ended with the laying of flowers at the foot of the monument to Kobzar.
