A grand opening of the ice arena “Mariupol ice center” has been held in Mariupol. The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy took part in it. He gave the start to the debut match of the HC “Mariupol” against Kyiv “Sokol”. The meeting is held with the quarantine demands. The online broadcasting is being held.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy admitted the importance of the event for the East of Ukraine. According to the President, the opening of the ice arena is a big victory for Mariupol and all Donetsk region.
“I think that it is really important for the residents to see that there is life here, Ukraine is built there. I am sure that except modern celebrities, we will see little talents who will become famous sportsmen, representing Ukraine on European and world competitions and the Olympic games. They will bring the victories to Ukraine”, the leader of the state emphasized.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy added that ice arena is a bright example of fruitful cooperation of the state, city and private business. After his greeting, hockey players hit the ice and the match started. To recap, the competition is held within the framework of the championship of the Ukrainian hockey league of the season 2020/21.
The Minister of youth and sports of Ukraine Vadym Guttsait, the General Director of Metinvest Group Yuriy Ryzhenkov, the legendary field athlete, a champion of the Olympic games Serhiy Bubka, a Ukrainian politician and a state official Borys Kolesnikov, the first deputy mayor Mykhaylo Kohut and the deputy mayor of the city mayor Ksenia Sukhova were present at the opening ceremony.
