Alexandra Fedotova is a student of Mariupol State University. Her dream is to open her own school of foreign languages. In her 20, the girl knows four languages and does not plan to stop there. Alexandra has returned from the reception of the Ambassador of Italy to Ukraine recently.
At the time of entering the university, the girl knew English very well, so she chose the Italian language to learn: ‘Intuition and inner premonition suggested that I should like it. I was not mistaken. For four years of study I did not regret my choice’.
In 2017, Alexandra, as the best student, received a scholarship from the University for foreigners in the city of Perugia. This allowed to study in Italy for a month. In 2018, she became the prize-winner of the International Cinema Competition ‘As in a Mirror’, which was held by the Union ‘Dante Alighieri’, with the support of the Italian institutes of culture. As a result, the girl got the opportunity to go to Rome. In April 2019, Alexandra won the first place at the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in Italian. The competition was attended by students from leading universities of Kiev, Lvov, Kharkov and Odessa.
Victory in the Olympiad gives a scholarship to study in Italy from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Italian Republic. A welcome surprise was the reception at the residence of the Ambassador of Italy to Ukraine, David La Cecilia.
The main difference from the classes in Mariupol is that the girl names the independence of the students. The whole educational process is completely on the conscience of students. If knowledge is important to a person, he gets it.
‘I noticed that in Italy no one comes to lectures, because it is necessary. They study there because they really want to study, because of what the level of interest in the subject seemed to me higher. They ask many questions to the teacher, they are not afraid to take an active part in the course of the lesson, they like to sit in libraries for a long time. Students are more relaxed and do not perceive the learning process as their duty,’ Alexandra says.
With her personal motivation, the girl also considers her interest and love for what she does: ‘It’s not hard for me to do the things that bring me pleasure. I like Italian language, so I don’t need to motivate myself to repeat some grammar or past material. It can be said that my motivation in studying with love what I learn. Yes, I just like to learn’.
But the trip to Rome left dual impressions. According to her, this is a city of contrast - on one hand a majestic city that is steeped in history and on the other one - commerce and crowds of tourists who erase the whole flavor of the country.
The girl has a lot of memorable photos and drawings, as she enjoys drawing and photo art. He spends her free time with books, watching cartoons and communicating with loved ones. It also improves colloquial French and Japanese.
The girl does not think about her future, because she believes that life is too unpredictable. ‘Now I want to travel, meet new people. I continue to improve my language skills, complete the master's program - this is my plan for the future. But there is a dream - to open my own school. I want to develop my own course of learning foreign languages. Helping people from all over the world understand each other’.
