Mariupol creates the conditions for equal opportunities: Ksenia Sukhova

At the Ukrainian Women's Congress, which takes place in Mariupol, deputy mayor Ksenia Sukhova has had a speech. She focused on the importance of such events, both for Mariupol and other cities of Ukraine.

She said that almost 40% of the city council members are women in the city. In addition, Ksenia Sukhova drew attention to the problems of gender-based violence. According to her, all conditions are created in Mariupol in order to overcome this problem.

‘We have a joint program with the United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine – ‘A comprehensive approach to solve the problem of violence against women and girls in Ukraine’. Shelter works together with our international partners. It can get help victims of violence. There are mobile brigades. And we see the positive results of this work,’ she noted.

It is worth noting that the purpose of the Congress is to create a platform for dialogue between parliamentarians and local authorities, activists of public organizations, women and men from the communities on the implementation of equal rights and opportunities policies, as well as raising awareness of gender-based discrimination and the advantages of adhering to the principles of equality between women and men.
