Today, on the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation, Mariupol honors those who, at the cost of their own lives, have defended peace in Mariupol, Ukraine and around the world. Mayor Vadym Boichenko lit lamps near the monument to “Victims of Fascism”. And his deputies laid flowers at the memorials of the Second World War in all areas of Mariupol.

We remember our honoured veterans. We appreciate them for the peace. We remember the price paid by our countrymen. The cost of this heroism is the millions of lives that the most bloody war in the history of mankind claimed. Their heroism, feat, courage and courage are the personification of love. That is the love for future generations, their grandchildren and children,
Vadym Boichenko stressed.

Red poppies are a symbol of memory of victims of the dead. They framed the icon lamps, which, accompanied by military songs, were lit in memory of the Heroes.

On May 8, 1945, the "Act of Unconditional Surrender" was formally adopted. May 8, 2005, the UN General Assembly proclaimed the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation, dedicated to the victims of World War II.
