During the agenda of the session of the City Council, the issue of changing the purpose of the site near the territory of the City Garden has been removed. It was planned to build a private technical university Metinvest Polytechnic here. But a private investor is considering the possibility of implementing a project in another city.

‘The construction of the university is a private initiative that could have brought about EUR 25 million of investment to Mariupol. This would open up new opportunities for our youth and create additional jobs. In addition, the construction could make it possible to revive the City Garden and reconstruct ‘Azovets’ sports complex. We must not lose this opportunity,’ the Mayor said.

Vadym Boichenko added that the investor is considering options for building a university in another city, but Mariupol can still compete for a university. The Mayor called on everyone to unite in the development of the city.

‘It is important that our children connect their future with their hometown. We must create and develop it together. We see that the metallurgical industry is changing, so it is important to think about the future, about the transformation of the economy. This is the way the American city Pittsburgh went and both education and medicine became the key to its development,’ Vadym Boichenko said.

He stressed that deputies should put aside personal ambitions and create new infrastructure and opportunities to attract young people to the city:

‘I want to make a city of dreams for our residents and youth, so that they are inspired here for new ideas and achievements. This is our common task’.
