Mariupol has set a course for revival of historical and architectural heritage. It was started with the heart of the city, a Theatre square, front elevations of three blocks of flats and a water tower. By 240th anniversary of the city, the center of Mariupol is going to become a modern, interesting and comfortable place of having rest. A tourist cluster of Virgin Mary city starts there.

A City Mayor Vadim Boichenko gave a tour of the ‘construction of the century’. He told the way Mariupol is going to transform by the City Day to the Director General of ‘Metinvest Holding’ Ltd Yuriy Ryzhenkov.

The total cost of reconstruction of the Theatre square is more than UAH 78 mln. There are city investments here that are UAH 53,7 mln  and Metinvest company – UAH 24,3 mln.

The citizens will have seen a new European fountain, a square, alleys, a playground and a modern art-space by September. A fixed toilet with facilities of access and a mother’s room is being built in the Theatre Square. External networks are changed, parking lots are upgraded and the territory is planted trees and shrubs. The works are provided as per schedule.

‘Mariupol has rich cultural and historical heritage. We want to save it. The footing of Virgin Mary church was found when the reconstruction of the Theatre square started. A construction of tourist cluster was started here. We want Mariupol to have its own history and its own authenticity, not every city can boast it’,
Vadim Boichenko stressed.

The reconstruction of the front elevation of three blocks of flats near the Theatre square is being led at the same time. The houses have historical value that is needed to be saved and kept.

‘Mariupol is not just a city with an industrial history. This is a challenging tourist center on Azov seashore, Juriy Ryzhenkov admitted. – That is why we help our municipality to make Mariupol to be cosy and comfortable and we support a creation of tourist attractions that can enhance tourist value of the city’.

A water tower that is an architectural landmark of Mariupol is going to be a tourist attraction. A tourist center, a virtual museum, a space for communication of youth, an IT-cluster and viewing point are planned to be open in ‘Veja’.

External works are being held to refresh front elevation but to save architectural authenticity of the structure.

The total cost of the project is more than UAH 3 mln. Internal and external works are financed by the city, ditrict and Metinvest group. According to the Mayor, ‘Veja’ is going to be the center of attraction and Mariupol will play out in fresh colours.
