Mariupol has reacted quickly and effectively to the consequences of bad weather on June 29. Employees of all public utilities, State Emergency Service of Ukraine and Lifesaving diving emergency service were involved into the work. City Mayor Vadym Boichenko inspected the most damaged parts and set a task to profile supervisors.
Because of heavy rainfalls and flow of wind in 14-storey building in 111 Metallurgov Ave., roof covering was damaged. According to the head of HOA Olha Nagabas, the repair works haven’t been held since 1982.
The First Deputy of the City Mayor Mikhailo Kohut told that there are problems with electrical services in a multi-story building. Vadym Boichenko inspected the roof and gave the task to the profile structure to set to work.
The City Mayor also visited the bridge in Kalmiuskyi district where there was a difficult situation. The water raised to the level of 1.2 meters during the rain. As a result, the car and the bus couldn’t run. They were evacuated with the help of State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
‘Storm drains were balled up. Carrying capacity of catchment basin is 134 liters per second. Up to 900 cubic meters of water were accumulated there. 1.5 hours were needed to let the water drop’, director of department of transport Vasyliy Klat told.
The head of Mariupol tram and trolleybus administration Vitaliy Doniev added that at first the work of trams was stopped and in 20 minutes it was taken a decision to stop the running of trolley-buses. After the raise of the level of water – the bus routes were reformatted. Three brigades worked at the cleaning of tram track including the night time.
Vadym Boichenko admitted that drain-water inlet should always be up and running. He pointed at the incomplete treatment of organization of the movement of transport.
Veselka Park suffered from heavy rainfalls. Water flow went through Podedy Ave. to the park zone. The gate was broken.
‘The level of water was up to 1.5 meters. 65% of barque and 30% of decorative spall were destroyed. The cover of playground was damaged. All drain-water inlets of the district and the entrance to the park are being investigated’, the head of PU Green construction Piotr Checker admitted.
The City Mayor gave the task to analyze the opportunities of development the concept of water disposal for two weeks and to broaden reception points of water. To revive the park for the next week. To develop the decision project of the reconstruction of the gate in short terms.
